The Fairbourn Identity: Kaden's 3rd Birthday Bash

Kaden got three days of birthday awesomeness this year!

Curtis took a Friday August 14, 2015 off of work so we could take him out to do something without the "two twin brothers." We called it a "Mommy, Daddy, Kaden date" and he couldn't be more excited about that. This summer has been hard for him with the twins since we haven't had a lot of time to spend with him and also haven't been able to do many fun things, as you can imagine with twin newborns. We went to Seven Peaks Salt Lake (Raging Waters when I was a kid) and had a blast swimming and riding on the tubes on the lazy river and wave pool. Kaden didn't enjoy the waterslides because he didn't like getting splashed at the end since he and Curtis kind of fell in a bit. Oh well. He enjoyed the rest.

On Saturday Aug. 15 we had a friend's party at our house. Kaden wanted a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles party, which is funny because he's really never seen it, save one episode we showed him once that he thought was "too scary." But since Daddy loves TMNT, so does Kaden and he has a ton of paraphernalia- t-shirts, hats, pajamas, pillowcase, Daddy's old Turtle shell, you name it. So we set out to have the most rockin' TMNT party around.

When the kids came in we had them pick a shell and some headbands and wristbands so they would be ready for "Ninja Training."

Once they were dressed we tried to get them to do the awesome obstacle course we'd made, but they were all so distracted by the bucket of water balloons that they mostly just popped those and then begged for more. Poor Curtis spent most of the morning hunched over the water balloon pump, filling balloons up, just to have the kids return empty handed ten seconds later. Ha ha.

I had the idea to fill the trampoline with balloons. Fun thought. However, the static build-up from all of the balloons was so great that after a few minutes the balloons started popping themselves and all the kids were screaming because it was scary.

The kids got the brilliant idea to move the balloons to the pool and had a wonderful time playing in them! Less scary, less popping.

We did "sewer races" with the turtles going down a rain gutter and into the pool. The kids thought this was so fun. They did this over and over for almost an hour. Fill the bucket up, pour it down the rain gutter, watch the plastic turtles from Amazon go spilling into the pool, repeat. For less than $10, the kids had the best activity ever created!

For lunch we had grapes and pizza (of course, because that's what Ninja Turtles love.) We requested no presents for the friend party so that the kids would just play and have fun and not have their feelings hurt if they didn't get anything. I think it was a great plan.

My parents came and watched the twins so we could actually do the friend's birthday party. Otherwise it would never have happened. Miss Emma had fun hanging out with her twin cousins inside.

Brad, Nicki and their kids spent Saturday night at our house so they could stay over for the family party. On Sunday August 16, Kaden's actual birthday, we had waffles for breakfast, went to Stake Conference, the kids played, we had hot dogs for dinner and then had the Seawrights and Fairbourns over for cupcakes and ice cream and presents.

Kaden got a train set (tracks and trains) from us, as well as clothes, a construction worker dress-up costume, and some train puzzles.
